What our clients say

“To accept the things I cannot change…. I was at my wits end, I finally realized that I could not quit on my own and needed help. I called a friend in recovery and he directed me to the WVMPHP and my life was changed forever. Dr. Hall came to my house and laid out what was expected of me if I were to be successful. I took his suggestions and am now 2 ½ years sober! I had to accept that I was no longer in charge and it was “OK” to concede defeat. Don’t get me wrong, life still goes on with its struggles, but now I have tools to use in my daily life to help me cope without turning to alcohol or drugs. Thanks to Dr. Hall and his staff at the WVMPHP for my new life and my ability to continue in medicine.”

“I just wanted to say thank you. I am very grateful for the WVMPHP and the opportunity to be able to do what I love; practice medicine and live life! Most importantly live life sober! I never thought that was possible until finding your program via a power greater than myself. Thank you for wanting to meet with each of us and caring about our recovery, our life and wellbeing. Thank you for caring about our happiness and our journey on this road of life and recovery! I know each of you have busy lives as well and I am sure its not said enough, but I am grateful for each and every one of you at the WVMPHP. Thank you for serving, caring and keeping such a program around to help us find our way, our path to recovery. Thank you again.”

“My alcohol use had taken me to a low point physically, mentally, emotionally and had nearly destroyed me, my family and my career. When I reached out for help by going to the hospital for detox, Dr. Hall was one of the first people that offered me hope that everything was going to be OK. What he was able to do was get me to a rehab facility that started me on my journey in recovery. Today, I live life one day at a time by the principles I have learned in Alcoholics Anonymous. I thank God that Dr. Hall and the WVMPHP were there for me and led me to AA, which in turn led me to a new freedom and happiness that is truly amazing today.”

“…..some people like me do not see the problem initially, consider those events ‘accidents’. It happens to everybody, so there is a need for a less than voluntary start. Might sound inhuman, but I think in many cases including mine an intervention is needed. It not only saves lives, but it makes life enjoyable. The main reason I did not want to even hear about the WVMPHP was that I thought it will ruin my professional life. Instead it helped my professional life tremendously…..I became chief, salary increase and the relationship with the hospital improved. I’m really grateful to you and all the staff of the WVMPHP. Please continue your excellent job for some talented people with a bad disease.”

“I hope you are having a wonderful day. I’m picking up my 2-year chip tonight, and wanted to take a moment to thank you and the staff of the WVMPHP. Though it’s busy, my life is good today and the WVMPHP has played a significant role in helping me through the last couple of years. That’s all. Just felt the need to express my gratitude. The thought started when my wife congratulated me this morning, and my first thought was ‘well, I had help’.”

“I got my license approved today!! During the virtual interview on Saturday when I told them my brief story and how I applied to WVU because I’d been told WVMPHP was top notch, Mark Spangler asked, ‘you came to WV because of the PHP?’ I said, ‘I most certainly did! It’s good PHPs like this that have saved my life.’ I am thrilled to be licensed, loving West Virginia, and ever so grateful for the WVMPHP! I feel truly blessed.”
