“To accept the things I cannot change…. I was at my wits end, I finally realized that I could not quit on my own and needed help. I called a friend in recovery and he directed me to the WVMPHP and my life was changed forever. Dr. Hall came to my house and laid out what was expected of me if I were to be successful. I took his suggestions and am now 2 ½ years sober! I had to accept that I was no longer in charge and it was “OK” to concede defeat. Don’t get me wrong, life still goes on with its struggles, but now I have tools to use in my daily life to help me cope without turning to alcohol or drugs. “…..some people like me do not see the problem initially, consider those events ‘accidents’. It happens to everybody, so there is a need for a less than voluntary start. Might sound inhuman, but I think in many cases including mine an intervention is needed. It not only saves lives, but it makes life enjoyable.
